Before作为介词 时，有一个特殊用法需要注意，即before long 表示“不久之后 ”。

四、主句用一般过去时 ，从句用一般过去时 。（不强调时间的先后，只是一般性地叙述事实 。）
★注意：许多语法格式并没有局限性，大多数时候只是为表述服务的。语法规则多为总结日常用语而来，多数是描写性质的，我们可以从一些日常用语中提炼出一些语法规则，但切不可生搬硬套某些语法规则来生造出一些并不存在的句子。

五、before从句的谓语有时用could+动词原形 ，主句用一般过去时/过去完成时 。
例如：1.She quickly locked the door before he could reach it.

2.It was some time before she could speak.

六、固定句型：
1.It was +时间段+ before … 意为“过了多久才… ”
It was a long time before he got to sleep again.
过了很长时间，他才又睡着了。
2、 It was not long +时间段+ before … 意为“不久就… ”
It was not long before he sensed the danger of the position.
不久他就意识到了处境的危险。
3.It will（not）be +时间段+before从句 。（before从句指将来时间，通常用一般现在时 。）
It will be an hour before the police arrive.
要过一个小时，警察们才能到。
★注意：before从句在某些情况下也可用一般将来时，这时一般含有说话人的主观感情色彩。
例如：It will be long before she will come back.她要过很久才能回来。（说话人认为她过很久才能回来，强调时间之长，可能意指听话人别再等了 。）
Some experts predict that it won't be many years before China will surpass the United States.有些专家预言，中国用不了多少年就会超越美国。（强调所需时间之短 ）
七、Before用于特殊结构hardly/scarcely/barely.。.when/before 中，表示主句和从句的动作相继发生，意为“一…就，刚…就 ”。
例如：I had hardly sat down before the bell rang.
我刚坐下，铃就响了。
★注意：hardly,scarcely,barely位于句首时，主句要用部分倒装。
例如：Hardly had a moment passed before the door creaked open.
还没过一会儿，门就“咯吱”一声开了。
★注意：hardly/scarcely/barely.。.when 有时可与not.。.before换用。

八、Before的一些特殊翻译法。
1、翻译为“否则，以免 ”。
Do it now before you forget 。

2、翻译为“宁愿…也不… ”，常与will/would 连用。
I would die before I would tell the truth.
I’d shoot myself before I apologized to him.
I would / will die before I surrender 。
并列连词用来连接平行的词、词组或从句。常见的连词有and ，but ，or ，so ，both…and ， either…or ，neither…nor ， not only… but also 等。
1、 and
1)。and 表示 “和、且”在肯定句中连接并列的成分。
He is laughing and talking 。
2)。祈使句+ and …… ， “and” 表示“那么”之意。= If……

2、 but
表示转折关系的连词，意为“但是”
He is poor ，but honest 。
3、 or
1)。or 有 “或”的意思，表示一种选择

2)。 “祈使句……，or …” or 表示否则。= If …not …， ……。 。
Study hard ， or you will fail. = If you don't study hard ， you will fail 。
3)。or 用在否定句中表示并列关系。

4、 both
1)。both “两者都”， 后面的名词、动词都用复数。

3)。both …and…
Both you and she are right 。
5、 either/ either …or
1)。either “两者当中任何一个”，后有of 时接名词的复数形式，无of时接单数名词，动词用单数形式。

……或者……。”动词与临近的主语保持一致。即 “就近原则”。

6、 neither /neither …nor…
1)。neither “两者当中都不”，后有of 时接名词的复数形式，无of时接单数名词，动词用单数形式。

2)。neither …。nor… “既不……。也不……”动词与临近的主语保持一致。即 “就近原则”。
