狮子国王
THE BEASTS of the field and forest had a Lion as their king. He was neither wrathful， cruel， nor tyrannical， but just and gentle as a king could be. During his reign he made a royal proclamation for a general assembly of all the birds and beasts， and drew up conditions for a universal league， in which the Wolf and the Lamb， the Panther and the Kid， the Tiger and the Stag， the Dog and the Hare， should live together in perfect peace and amity.

小马过河
One day， a little horse was asked to mill flour by his mother ，He carried the two bags of wheat and left home. He was walking happily.When he came to a river，the mill was on the other side of the river and there was no bridges over the water. Now， what would the little horse do. Looking at the flowing water， he got confused. Then he saw an old cow eating grass on the bank， . So he asked him ： “ Uncle cow， is the water deep ？ And can I walk across it ？ ” “ Not at all ！ ” the cow said. “It’s just as high as my lower legs， you can go across it. It’s safe. ” Then the little horse was ready to go across the water. Just then， a squirrel in the tree shouted to him ： “Little horse， don’t go in the water. It’s too deep. You’ll get drawned， and one of my friends got drawned in it a few days ago. ” So the little horse drew back his legs quickly， he had to go back to ask his mother what to do. When his mother heard his story， she laughed and said to him ： “ My child， it’s not enough if you only listen to the others. you must try it by yourself， then you‘ll find the truth. ”
有一天，一匹小马的妈妈让他去磨房磨面，他背着两袋子麦子离开了家，他很快乐的走着。当他来到了一条河，磨房在河对面，可河上没有桥。现在小马该怎么办呢？看着滚滚的河水，他困惑了，然后他看见一头老牛在河岸边吃草，于是他问道：“牛叔，水深吗？我能过河吗？”牛叔答道：“一点也不深，你可以过河，水只到到我的小腿肚，很安全。”于是小马就准备过河了，就在那时，树上的小松鼠对小马大喊道：“小马，不要过河，水太深了，你会被淹死的，我的一个朋友前些天才被溺水了。”于是小马马上把腿收回来，他必须得回家问问妈妈该怎么办？当他妈妈听到这件事后，笑着对小马说：“我的孩子，如果只听别的那是不够的，你得自己亲自去尝试，找到真相。”
The little horse came back to the river again. When he put his legs in the water again， the squirrel cried out again ： “ Little horse， it’s dangerous， you can’t do that ！ ” “Let me have a try.” The horse said. And with those words he walked carefully across the river. The water was neither that shallow as the cow had told him nor that deep as the squirrel had described. It was just OK for him.
于是小马又来到河边，当他再次把腿放进水里时，松鼠又大叫起来了：“小马，很危险，你不能那么做。”小马说：“让我试试。”边说着，小马便小心翼翼的过了河，水既不如牛叔说的一样浅，也不像松鼠说的那样深，对他来说刚刚好。

有个老人在森林中砍了不少柴，十分吃力地挑着走了很远的路。
At last he grew very tired and hopeless. He threw down all the sticks and cried out， “I cannot bear this life any longer. Ah， I wish Death would come and take me！”
一路上他累极了，实在挑不动了，便扔下柴担，叫喊起来：“这种日子我受不了了，死神啊，带我走吧。”
As he spoke， Death appeared， and said to him， “What would you do， old man？ I heard you call me.”
这时，死神来了，对他说：“老头，你想做什么，我听见你叫我？”
“Please， sir，” replied the old man， “would you help me lift this bundle of sticks up to my shoulder？”
“先生”，老人说，“您能帮忙将那担子放在我的肩上吗？”

【篇五】
战国末期，秦国向魏国接连发动大规模的进攻，魏国无力抵抗，大片土地都被秦军占领了。到公元前273年，秦国又一次向魏国出兵，势头空前猛烈。
The king of the State of Wei summoned his officials，and asked with a worried look if anyone could propose a way to defeat the Qin army. After years of chaos caused by the wars，the officials trembled when fighting was mentioned， and no one dared to speak ofresistance. At the critical moment when a large enemy force was bearing down upon the border， most of the offinials persuaded the king to sue for peace， at the cost of giving away to the State of Qin the large area of land north of the Huanghe River and south of the Taihang Mountain.
魏王把大臣们召来，愁眉苦脸地问大家有没有使秦国退兵的办法。大臣们由于经过多年的战乱，提起打仗就吓得哆嗦，谁也不敢谈“抵抗”二字。在这大兵压境的危急时刻，多数大臣都劝魏王，用黄河以北和太行山以南的大片土地为代价，向秦王求和。
However Su Dai， a counsellor， did not agree. He hurried up to the king and said：“Your Majesty， they don‘t think about the interests of the country at all.It is just because they are cowardly and afraid of death that they ask you to sue for peace by betraying the country. Of course you can temperarily satisfy the ambition of the king of the State of Qin is insatiably greedy. It will never stop assaulting us until our land is totally given away.
谋士苏代听了这些话，很不以为然，忙上前对魏王说：“大王，他们是因为自己胆小怕死，才让您去卖国求和，根本不为国家着想。您想，把大片土地割让给秦国虽然暂时满足了秦王的野心，但秦国的欲望是无止境的，只要魏国的土地没割完，秦军就不会停止进攻我们。”
“Once there was a man whose house was on fire. People told him to put out the fire with water， but he would not listen. Instead， he carried a faggot to put out the fire， only to make the fire fiercer. That was because he didn’t know that，instead of putting out the fire， faggots could only make it burning more vigorously. Isn‘t it equivalent to carrying faggots to put out a fire if you agree to sue for peace at the cost of the land of the State of Wei？”
说到这里，苏代讲了一个故事：从前有一个人，他的房子起火了，别人劝他快用水去浇灭大火，但他不听，偏抱起一捆柴草去救火，是因为他不懂得柴草不但不能灭火反而能助长火势的道理。大王若同意拿着魏国土地去求和，不就等于抱着柴草救火吗？”
Though Su Dai’s argument was very convincing， the king accepted the suggestion of those officials and gave away to the State of Qin a large area of the land of the State of Wei. For the king of the State of Wei was cowardly and only cared for peace at the moment.As might be expected，the Qin army assaulted the State of Wei on a large scale in 225 B.C.，surrounding the capital city Daliang and flooding it by digging open the dykes of the Huanghe River.The State of Wei was finally destroyed by the State of Qin.This story appears in the Historical Records Written by Sima Qian.
尽管苏代讲得头头是道，但是胆小的魏王只顾眼前的太平，还是依大臣们的意见把魏国大片土地割让给秦国。到公元225年，果然秦军又向魏国大举进攻，包围了国都大梁，掘开黄河大堤让洪水淹没了大梁城，魏国终于被秦国灭掉了。
